Rocky turns 50 this year, and Kings Theatre on Flatbush Avenue is marking it with a one-night screening on Thursday, November 5, where a live symphony orchestra plays Bill Conti's score in sync with the film, including Gonna Fly Now.
Before the movie starts, Sylvester Stallone and Bill Conti will sit down onstage together for a pre-show conversation about making the film, its music, and the working relationship between the two of them. The night also lists appearances by director Peter Farrelly and actor Anthony Ippolito.
What the night is
Rocky in Concert is a live-to-film show: the original 1976 picture, which won the Academy Award, runs on the big screen with the dialogue and effects intact, while the orchestra replaces the recorded soundtrack in real time. The show is part of a touring production, and the Brooklyn date is the one that adds Stallone and Conti in person.
