Queens Culture & Arts Network has opened a workshop space at 31-01 Vernon Boulevard in Astoria, and its first season of adult classes is under way. The headline class for the next month is Adult Dance Fitness, which starts Monday, November 2, and teaches hip-hop and Broadway moves as a workout. A monthly country line dancing night meets the last Wednesday of every month, and a Broadway-led adult chorus is on the way.

The network, known as QCAN, is a division of the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens. Its office is on 30th Road in Astoria, and the Vernon Boulevard space gives it a room of its own for workshops.

Adult Dance Fitness, Mondays from November 2

The class is pitched at beginners through intermediate dancers and mixes hip-hop and Broadway choreography into an hour of exercise. It meets Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m., with sessions listed for November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. It is pay as you go at $20 a week, so nobody has to commit to the whole run to try it. QCAN lists availability as limited.

Country line dancing, once a month

Adult Country Line Dancing meets on the last Wednesday of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. The listed dates are October 28, November 25 and December 30. The steps are kept simple, no partner is needed, and no experience is required. Each session costs $20.

A chorus, coming soon

The Variety All-Star Adult Groove Chorus is a 15-week singing course for adults, taught by a Broadway performer and ending in a performance for friends and family. It will meet Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m.; QCAN has not posted the start date yet, but registration is already open.

For kids

The space also runs a six-week arts and crafts workshop for ages 9 to 12 on Saturday mornings, where children build a handmade storybook through sculpture, drawing and painting. The current session, which runs through December 12, is sold out, and QCAN says a new session will follow.

How to sign up

Registration for every workshop is on QCAN's workshops page. The space is at 31-01 Vernon Boulevard, near the East River. The Q103 bus runs along Vernon Boulevard, and the N and W trains at 30th Avenue are the nearest subway, about a 15-minute walk inland. Questions go to info@qcanetwork.org.
