Thalia Spanish Theatre in Sunnyside is bringing back Navidad en Colombia: Christmas in Colombia, a holiday show of Colombian folk music and dance by Mestizo Dance Company. The theater lists the production as back by popular demand. It runs Friday, November 20 through Sunday, December 20, with four performances a weekend at the theater on Greenpoint Avenue.
What the show is
The production celebrates the Christmas traditions of Colombia through folkloric music and dance, performed by a company of dancers in the regional styles of the country. Mestizo Dance Company's artistic director, Harold Puente, leads the production, and the singer María Escobar appears as a special guest. Ángel Gil Orrios is the producer.
The choreography is the work of six choreographers: Willy Mena, Sebastian Lozano, Victor H. Lopez, Deiner Carabali, Luisa F. Acosta and Puente himself. Bringing that many hands to one program is how the show spans different regional dances rather than a single style.
