The Bayside Historical Society's Passport Concert Series brings a different country's music to the ballroom of the Castle at Bayside, on the Fort Totten grounds. On Sunday, November 15, the stop is Croatia. Damir Radov, a Croatian-born singer who plays accordion and keyboard, performs from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The performer

Radov is a Croatian-American musician who was born in Croatia. His repertoire spans traditional and contemporary Croatian music. He has played Croatian festivals, celebrations and community events in the United States and Canada as well as in Croatia, and he has recorded and released two albums. The historical society describes his work as keeping Croatian music, culture and traditions alive for Croatians living abroad.

The series

The Passport Concert Series is the society's program of concerts drawn from cultures around the world, each held at the castle. This one is funded by Council Member Vickie Paladino and supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. The concert is one of several programs the society holds at the castle this month:

  • Thursday, November 12: the society's book club discusses The Changeling, a dark fantasy and horror novel by a Queens-born author.
  • Thursday, November 19: nurse and author Joan Furey talks about her service in Vietnam and the years after, as part of the society's veterans observance.

The castle is inside Fort Totten Park, at 208 Totten Avenue. Program details, ticket links and reservations for the November tours are all on the society's events page.
