Williamsburg's week of free things to do starts quietly. On Halloween morning the Williamsburgh Library on Division Avenue hosts a sound bath and meditation set to Indian music, and through the week that follows there are two evening workouts in McCarren Park, an ongoing acrylic painting class and a story hour where every child takes home a book.

Saturday morning: sound bath and meditation

On Saturday, October 31, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., local musician Paul Wellington introduces the sounds of Indian music therapy at Williamsburgh Library, playing flute and tamboura while the group relaxes and meditates. The session is for adults and is free. It is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York as part of its Carnegie Libraries 250 initiative.

Monday and Wednesday: circuit training in McCarren Park

NYC Parks runs two free Shape Up NYC classes in McCarren Park this week. Bodyweight Interval Training, led by Harriet Carter-Range, meets Monday, November 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Multi-Use Room C; it mixes cardio with bodyweight strength work, offers modifications for every level, and asks participants to bring their own yoga mat. Body-Centric Circuit Training, led by Tonisha Reid, meets Wednesday, November 4, at 6 p.m.; it is a low impact bodyweight workout that pairs strength and endurance work with mindfulness. For that class, participants sign in at the front desk and bring a lock for their bag, since only a towel, water and a phone are allowed in the dance room. Both classes take registration through the NYC Parks event pages.

Thursdays: painting with acrylics

At the library, artist Natalie del Villar teaches Painting Life: Exploring Acrylic Paint on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2 p.m., including October 29 and November 5. The class works through the elements of art, from line and shape to texture and space, with painting from observation, portraiture and still life, and ends with a project of each painter's choosing. It runs through December 17 and is open to all levels, and the library says attending every session is not required.

Thursday afternoon: Ezra Jack Keats story and craft

On Thursday, November 5, from 3 to 4 p.m., the library reads a story by author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats aloud and follows it with a craft based on the book. Every participant receives a free Ezra Jack Keats book to keep. It is for ages 3 and up and is supported by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.
