Williamsburg is getting a diner that plans to keep its lights on all night. Williamsburg Diner has put up its menu and its address, 82 South 4th Street, and says that once it is fully open it will run 24 hours a day, every day.

It is not open yet. The diner's own site says online ordering will launch first, with dine-in service to follow, and that confirmed opening dates will be posted on its Instagram, @williamsburgdiner.

Who is behind it

The diner's About page describes two founders coming at it from opposite directions. One grew up in the diner business and opened a diner in Bushwick before setting his sights on Williamsburg. The other spent his career in technology and wanted to build a physical neighborhood place with a front door and regulars. The page frames the result as old-school diner culture rebuilt for a new generation of Brooklyn.

The look takes its cues from the neighborhood's industrial past. The founders write that the signage, materials, uniforms and even the menu artwork nod to the Williamsburg of factories, the waterfront and immigrant working families, with the Domino Sugar refinery named as the landmark they had in mind.

What is on the menu

The menu covers the full diner range, served at any hour. Breakfast runs from eggs and omelettes to pancakes, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, wraps and lighter morning plates. The diner classics section has burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, wraps, entrées and pasta, with starters, salads, soups and sides alongside. Dessert means pies, cakes, milkshakes, sundaes, floats and baked goods.

The house picks, as the diner lists them: eggs Benedict, pancakes, a barbecue bacon burger, disco fries, meatloaf and milkshakes. The drinks list runs from coffee and fountain drinks to cocktails, zero-proof drinks, beer and wine.

The menu also notes two things. The diner says almost every item can be made gluten-free on request, and the menu marks dishes that are naturally gluten-free, naturally vegan or available with a vegan alternative. And there is a second, smaller menu called Ritz & The Rag: a short, chef-driven list of upgraded diner classics, served for dine-in only.

The diner also takes inquiries for private events.

Where it is

82 South 4th Street is in South Williamsburg, a few blocks from the Williamsburg Bridge. The nearest trains are the J, M and Z at Marcy Avenue, and the L at Bedford Avenue is about a ten-minute walk. Until the doors open, the menu is posted at williamsburgdiner.com, and the Instagram account is where the opening date will appear first.
