The medieval love story of Tristan and Yseult is playing a few steps from the Brooklyn Bridge this month. St. Ann's Warehouse, at 45 Water Street in DUMBO, opened its run of Tristan & Yseult on Nov. 1, and the production plays through Nov. 22.
It is the original Kneehigh staging, adapted and directed by Emma Rice and written by Carl Grose and Anna Maria Murphy. The production has toured the world for more than 20 years. This run is a co-production of the Emma Rice Company, Alexandra Palace Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse and York Theatre Royal.
What to know before you go
The show runs 2 hours and 10 minutes, including an intermission. St. Ann's lists it as suitable for adults and for children 8 and older, and nobody under 5 is admitted.
The theater notes several things ahead of time. The staging uses haze, fire effects and flashing lights, and it includes depictions of sex and self-harm. Audience members are handed latex balloons during the performance, so anyone with a latex allergy should tell the front-of-house team on arrival.
Performance times and current ticket prices are on the St. Ann's Warehouse calendar, which is also where the theater sells its seats. The theater says tickets bought through its own website, box office and authorized partners are guaranteed for admission, and it reserves the right to verify orders that look suspicious.
Dinner and drinks on Main Street, with a ticket discount
St. Ann's has lined up offers with four neighbors for ticket holders. Show a ticket or an order confirmation and you get:
- Dawn's Til Dusk, 33 Main Street: 20 percent off drinks.
- Ziggy's Roman Cafe, 15 Main Street: 15 percent off.
- Titán, 5 Front Street: 15 percent off.
- Celestine, 1 John Street: 15 percent off.
Time Out Market, next door to the theater in Empire Stores, keeps its own calendar of events for after the show.
What comes next at St. Ann's
The next production on the 2026 to 2027 season is Saigon, from Dec. 3 to 20. It is directed by Caroline Guiela Nguyen and performed by the National Theatre of Strasbourg, in French and Vietnamese with English captions at every performance. The play moves between a busy restaurant in 1950s Vietnam and 1990s France, following characters dealing with exile and the long reach of history. It runs 3 hours and 20 minutes with an intermission, and St. Ann's presents it with L'Alliance New York's Crossing The Line Festival. The season also lists Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi and Kramer/Fauci.
