Comedian Gary Gulman is filming his show Grandiloquent in Tribeca this Saturday, and the audience is part of the production. The Tribeca Performing Arts Center at the Borough of Manhattan Community College will host two tapings on Saturday, October 24, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $36.

The show

Grandiloquent is a solo comedy about insecurity, empathy and self-acceptance. It follows how a thoughtful boy used humor, reading and writing to get through his parents' mistakes. The show ran off-Broadway for five sold-out weeks at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in the West Village. It was directed by Tony winner Moritz von Stuelpnagel and produced by Mike and Carlee Productions, the producers of Oh, Mary!

Gulman, who is from Boston, has worked in comedy for more than 30 years. Before that he played college football on scholarship and worked as an accountant and a high school teacher. He has made five television specials, including Born on 3rd Base and The Great Depresh.

What to know about a taping

Because the shows are being filmed, the theater has set out rules for the audience:

  • Phones are put away for the entire show, and no recording of any kind is allowed.
  • No white clothing, no hats and no large logos. Darker tops are preferred because they read better on camera.
  • Anyone who attends agrees to appear in the filmed production.
  • Seating is general admission, first come, first served.

Arrival times are early. For the 7 p.m. show, arrive by 6 p.m. and be seated by 6:45. For the 9:30 p.m. show, arrive by 8:30 and be seated by 9:15.
