Tribeca's coming week is small-scale and close to home: a free lunchtime jazz set on a downtown plaza, two new gallery exhibitions opening on White Street, and a Halloween afternoon for families at Bogardus Plaza. Here is what is happening, Oct. 28 to 31.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: jazz at lunch on Bogardus Plaza
Friends of Bogardus Plaza, the nonprofit that programs and maintains the small triangle where Hudson Street meets West Broadway at Chambers Street, has booked a different jazz group for every Wednesday in October. The last of the month's sessions is Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 30: two openings at Jane Lombard Gallery
Jane Lombard Gallery at 58 White Street opens two exhibitions on Oct. 30, both running through Dec. 12.
- Elodie Blanchard: In Fragments is a solo show of textile work drawn from three of the artist's series, Trees, Mending Joy and Vessels. Blanchard builds the pieces from fabric, clothing and Mylar balloons collected during her years working as a textile designer.
- Rachael Catharine Anderson: Hidden Peril fills the gallery's project space, JLG Projects, with paintings of poisonous plants and mushrooms.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 31: Halloween Spooktacular at Bogardus Plaza
Friends of Bogardus Plaza closes the week with a Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3 to 7 p.m., which it describes as a family-friendly spooky setup with photo opportunities on the plaza.
How to get around
Bogardus Plaza, at Hudson Street, West Broadway and Chambers Street, is next to the 1, 2 and 3 at Chambers Street and a short walk from the A and C at Chambers Street. Jane Lombard Gallery, at 58 White Street between Broadway and Church Street, is closest to the 1 at Franklin Street and the A, C and E at Canal Street.
