Brooklyn Heights fits a 1937 pipe organ, the Revolutionary War, a roomful of reading dogs and a children's Halloween pageant into the week from Sunday, October 25, to Saturday, October 31. Here is what is on, confirmed at each organizer's own page.
Sunday, October 25: Plymouth Church dedicates its Aeolian-Skinner organ
Plymouth Church, 75 Hicks Street, holds A Voice for the Ages, a service of dedication for its Aeolian-Skinner organ, Opus 964, built in 1937. It starts at 4 p.m. in the Plymouth sanctuary, and the choirs of Plymouth Church and Grace Episcopal Church will sing together for the occasion. A reception follows the service.
Tuesday, October 27: Read with a Dog at the Brooklyn Heights Library
The Brooklyn Heights Library, 286 Cadman Plaza West, brings in therapy dogs from The Good Dog Foundation from 4 to 5 p.m. for Read with a Dog. Children ages 5 to 12 read aloud to a dog for 15 minutes. It is free. Sign-up for the 15-minute slots opens at the children's desk at 3 p.m., first come, first served, so arrive early.
Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31: free tours of the Battle of Brooklyn exhibition
The Center for Brooklyn History, 128 Pierrepont Street, runs free guided tours of its exhibition The Battle of Brooklyn: Fought and Remembered on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. The exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of the 1776 battle, and the tour walks through the artifacts, archival documents and rare maps the center has gathered for it. Registration is required through the Brooklyn Public Library calendar.
The center's other headline event this week, a Tuesday panel on Brooklyn ghost stories called Haunted Brooklyn, has already reached capacity.
Saturday, October 31: The Eldritch Spooktacular Halloween Pageant
The Heights Players, the community theater at 26 Willow Place, stages a participation play for young children on Halloween at noon and 2 p.m. The Eldritch Spooktacular Halloween Pageant is written and directed by Michelle Maccarone, with music by Chris Christiana. It runs 50 minutes and is pitched at ages 2 to 10, who are invited to take part rather than just watch. Tickets are sold through the Heights Players' ticketing page.
