The Workshop, an art studio started by two local artists, has a permanent home in Rockaway Park as of this month. It now operates out of The Rockaway Hotel's former Supply Shop, with its own entrance at the corner of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 108th Street. Until October, the studio ran its classes in borrowed spaces around the peninsula.

Who started it

The Workshop was founded by Tracey McCormick, who holds a fine arts degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and is a mother of three, and Judith Meade, a Rockaway native with a fine arts degree from the University of Delaware.

What it offers

The studio runs four-week courses led by working artists for students from second grade through adulthood, along with one-time workshops. Younger children have two options: Family Crafts, for pre-K and younger with an adult taking part, and Little Kids Crafting, a drop-off class for kindergarten and first grade. The studio also hosts birthday parties and private events.

Its current lineup includes Kids Painting with Diana Naccarato, Little Kids Crafts with Shakira Jovanni and Tracey McCormick, Family Crafts with Judith Meade, and two adult classes taught by Madeline La Rosa, Adult Watercolor and Sewing and Embroidery.

Help with fees

The Workshop says no one should miss a class because of cost. Families and adults who need financial help can ask through a confidential inquiry form on the studio's website.
