The Mark, the hotel on Madison Avenue at East 77th Street, is opening its first spa this November, and the treatment rooms will be open to New Yorkers who are not staying at the hotel. Called The Mark Wellness & Longevity Spa by Augustinus Bader, it is built around the facials and skin technology of the German skincare brand, and the hotel says it is the brand's first dedicated hotel spa in the United States.
What is opening
According to the hotel's announcement, the spa has three dedicated treatment rooms. The menu centers on Augustinus Bader's signature facials, along with a wider set of wellness treatments built as personalized protocols for each client. The brand's products are based on TFC8, a patented formula developed by Professor Augustinus Bader, whose research the announcement places at more than 35 years.
The facials draw on five types of equipment named in the announcement:
- Precision nano-channeling, which uses very fine tips to open small channels at the skin's surface so that serums can be applied into them.
- Microcurrent, low-level electrical current applied to the face and often used for toning and lifting treatments.
- Biosonix ultrasound, sound-wave technology used in facials for cleansing and product delivery.
- Full-spectrum LED, colored light therapy delivered through a panel or mask.
- Ionized oxygen therapy, a pressurized oxygen mist used as a finishing step.
The hotel has not yet posted a treatment menu, prices or an exact opening day. The announcement describes the program as personalized, meaning the combination of technologies is chosen for each client rather than sold as a fixed package, and it places the facials alongside the hotel's fitness and recovery offerings under the spa's wellness and longevity name.
Open to non-guests
The main news for neighbors is that the spa is not limited to hotel guests. The announcement says both people staying at The Mark and New Yorkers from outside the hotel will be able to book treatments. Until now, the hotel's wellness offerings have been aimed at its own guests: a fitness center with Technogym equipment open 24 hours, an in-house personal trainer, massages delivered to guest rooms, and a private gym and outdoor cold plunge in the hotel's penthouse.
About the hotel
The Mark has 151 rooms, made up of 104 guest rooms and 47 suites, with interiors by the French designer Jacques Grange, and the hotel recently finished restoring its rooms and suites. Its ground floor holds The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges, which serves indoor and outdoor tables on Madison Avenue. The hotel is a block from Central Park and a short walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Getting there
The Mark is at 25 East 77th Street, on the corner of Madison Avenue. The nearest subway is the 6 train at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, two blocks east. The Q train at 72nd Street and Second Avenue is about a 10-minute walk. The M1, M2, M3 and M4 buses run along Madison and Fifth Avenues, and the M79 crosstown bus stops two blocks north.
How to book
The spa opens in November. Booking details have not been published yet, so the most direct route is the hotel itself: The Mark's main line is (212) 744-4300, and updates will be posted on the hotel's website. Ask for the spa's opening date, the length and price of each facial, and whether the hotel is taking advance appointments for the first weeks. The address is The Mark, Madison Avenue at 77th Street, New York, NY 10075.
