Straker's, chef Thomas Straker's restaurant on Golborne Road in west London, has opened its first location outside the U.K. at 59 Grand Street in SoHo, between West Broadway and Wooster Street, in the space that was Lucky Strike. Straker confirmed the opening in his Oct. 13 newsletter.

Who is cooking

Straker was born in the United States and raised in Herefordshire, England, and has described New York as a long-held goal. The cooking is seasonal and built around fire, from an open kitchen in the center of the dining room. Conor Strutt, the group's head of wine, runs the list, and the restaurant has its own wine shop.

What is on the menu

The menu opens with flatbreads, including a mussel flatbread with chilli butter ($23) and a girolles version ($24). From there the menu runs through Lucky Lime oysters ($30 or $55), a red shrimp and foie gras tostada ($16), bluefin tuna belly carpaccio ($30), langoustines ($36) and clam tagliolini ($32). Larger plates include wood-roasted grouper ($45), a half chicken ($38), a strip steak ($77), Dover sole ($88) and a T-bone ($125). Tables of six or more carry an automatic 20 percent gratuity.

Hours and reservations

Straker's serves dinner daily from 5 to 11 p.m. Reservations are on Resy and Dorsia, and the restaurant takes private events.

Getting there

59 Grand Street is a few blocks from the Canal Street stations on the A, C and E and on the 1.
