Staten Island's parks fill the last days of October with free Halloween programs, from a haunted field house in Walker Park to a costume hike for dogs in Wolfe's Pond Park, and Snug Harbor runs the final two nights of its ghost-hunting tours. Here is what is on, Thursday through Saturday, with the times, places and costs.

Thursday: a pumpkin patch at McDonald Playground

NYC Parks and Staten Island Recreation set up a pumpkin patch at Austin J. McDonald Playground on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. Children pick their own sugar pumpkin and paint it, and there are Halloween crafts and jumbo games. It is free, no registration is needed, and it meets at the playground's front entrance. Questions go to 718-816-5558.

Friday: Wicked Walker

On Friday, Oct. 30, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Walker Park's field house becomes a haunted house for Wicked Walker, a family Halloween event from NYC Parks and Staten Island Recreation. After the haunted house there is a pumpkin patch with pumpkin painting, arts and crafts and games. Admission is free and no registration is needed; the contact number is 718-816-8103.

Friday and Saturday: the last Spooky Snug Harbor tours

Snug Harbor Cultural Center's nighttime walking tours, which have run every Friday and Saturday this month, end this weekend. Michael Pelczar, the local historian who founded Spooky Staten Island, leads each group through the campus's history after dark, with ghost-hunting equipment for visitors to try.

Friday's tour runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday is the Halloween special, from 9 to 10:30 p.m., which visits the burial place of Captain Robert Randall, whose fortune, left in his will, brought Snug Harbor into existence, and takes up the murder of Chaplain Quinn, a 19th-century disaster that shook the harbor's buildings and a disappearance that set the institution searching.

Tickets are $30 for adults, students and seniors, and $25 for Snug Harbor members with the member promo code. Tours meet at the Visitor Services Booth where Chapel Road meets Gazebo Road; Snug Harbor's site has the campus map and directions.

Saturday morning: three ways into the woods

A dog costume hike at Wolfe's Pond. The Urban Park Rangers lead a Howl-oween Doggie Day Hike on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to noon, starting at the Wolfe's Pond Park entrance at Cornelia Avenue and Chester Avenue. Dogs come in costume and on a leash, and people without a dog are welcome to walk along. It is free with no registration; the Rangers are at 718-967-3542.

A Halloween hike to Heyerdahl Hill. At the same hour, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Greenbelt Nature Center at 700 Rockland Avenue, at Brielle Avenue, leads a hike through the central Greenbelt to Heyerdahl Hill, covering fall foliage, plants, wildlife and the area's history, haunted parts included. It is free, suited to children 10 and older, and registration is through Eventbrite. Wear sturdy shoes; the center is at 718-351-3450.

A leaf rake at Westerleigh Park. Before the hikes, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Westerleigh Parks Coalition holds an It's My Park fall cleanup, raking leaves and clearing fallen debris. Volunteers meet at the bandstand; the coalition can be reached at westerleighparkscoalition@gmail.com.
