The Staten Island FerryHawks play their last home game in September, and their ballpark in St. George usually goes quiet until spring. Not this year. The team has given SIUH Community Park, on Richmond Terrace, to the Staten Island Marine Toys for Tots campaign as its operations center for the 2026 holiday season.

Every toy collected across the borough this season will come to the ballpark to be received, sorted, organized, stored and sent back out to families. The team announced the partnership in October, saying the space gives volunteers room to prepare thousands of new toys for children on Staten Island.

Why a ballpark

A toy drive is easy to start and hard to finish. Collection boxes fill up in offices, schools and stores all over the island, and then every one of those toys has to go somewhere big enough to be counted and sorted by age, kept dry and loaded out in time for the holidays. The campaign's local coordinator, Jozette Carter-Williams, named finding a facility large enough as one of the hardest parts of running a campaign this size, and the team's offer answers it.

The FerryHawks, who play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, framed the decision as part of the team's community work, describing the ballpark as a gathering place for the borough as much as a place to play games.

Holidays with the Hawks

The team is also planning this year's Holidays with the Hawks, its annual community event, and says it will be bigger than in past years. The plans so far include local vendors, performances by Staten Island high school groups and photos with Santa, with more to be announced. Fans will be able to bring new toys to the event for Toys for Tots.

The date has not been announced yet. The team says details are coming soon on its website and social channels.

How to help

The surest way to take part so far is to bring a new toy to Holidays with the Hawks once the date is set. Businesses, schools and groups that want to collect toys for the Staten Island campaign can find it through the national Toys for Tots site, which lists each local campaign and its coordinator.

The ballpark is at 75 Richmond Terrace, a short walk along the waterfront from the St. George Ferry Terminal, where the free Staten Island Ferry arrives from Whitehall Street in Manhattan. The team's front office number is (929) 594-2957.

Baseball returns in the spring: the team's site counts down to its 2027 home opener on April 20.
