Socrates Sculpture Park closes out its 2026 season on Halloween with its Halloween Harvest Festival, Saturday, Oct. 31, from noon to 5 p.m. at 32-01 Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City. The waterfront park is pairing family art workshops with a community resource fair, a vegan food market and a dog costume contest that the park describes as the second largest in New York.

Workshops, start to finish

The day opens early with the season's final Field Guide, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where iDig2Learn and the park's artists lead a hands-on workshop on the nine species of bats that live in New York State, followed by bat art. No art experience is needed.

From noon to 3 p.m., artists from Ajna Dance Company apply mehndi, or henna, and there is drop-in pumpkin decorating and costume-making from reused materials. From 1 to 3 p.m., artist Lizania Cruz runs her Ecologies of Care kiosk, an interactive map of the connections among people, wildlife and the built environment in the park, made as part of her Adobe Creative Residency at MoMA. The kiosk stays on view through Nov. 15.

For the smallest visitors

Flying Leap performs The Garden, a show for children from birth to age 5, at 12:30 and 2 p.m.

Food and a resource fair

The Planted Culture Vegan Food Market runs the full afternoon, noon to 5 p.m., with vendors including Madrina Vegana, RastaRant and Freakin Vegan. From noon to 3 p.m., a resource fair brings in local organizations including the Greater Astoria Historical Society, and Growing Up Green Charter School runs a costume swap.

The dog costume contest

The contest is co-presented with Chateau le Woof and runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Sign-ups open at 1 p.m. at the Chateau le Woof table, and prizes go to first, second and third place.

A new sculpture

The park is also set to unveil Andrew Cornell Robinson's interactive sculpture Bellwether, built with ceramic bells made in community workshops, as part of its current exhibition.
