Sandbox VR, the full-body virtual reality company, opens its Times Square venue at 777 Seventh Avenue, between West 50th and 51st streets, on Friday, Oct. 30. Players booking before opening day get 20 percent off all tickets.
How it works
Groups play together in a room rather than sitting at a console. Trackers on each player's wrists, ankles and head put their whole body into the game, haptic vests let them feel hits, and handheld props kick back in step with the action. No gaming experience is needed.
The games
The venue offers 12 titles, among them Squid Game Virtuals, Stranger Things: Catalyst, Rebel Moon: The Descent, Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, Deadwood Origins and Deadwood PHOBIA, the third game in the company's zombie trilogy. Age of Dinosaurs is aimed at families.
Tickets and hours
Tickets start at $57 on weekdays and weekends. Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 10 a.m. to midnight
- Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.
- Sunday: 10 a.m. to midnight
The venue also books birthdays, corporate events and private parties, and sells gift cards. The phone number is 646-580-8856.
Getting there
Sandbox VR lists four nearby subway stops: 49 Street on the N, R and W; 47-50 Streets–Rockefeller Center on the B, D, F and M; and 50 Street on both the 1 and the C and E. The M7, M20 and M104 buses also run close by.
