The Seaport is getting a new bakery on Tuesday. Sadie's NYC, the two-level restaurant and garden bar in the South Street Seaport, opens Sadie's Bakery on Tuesday, November 10, right next door to the restaurant at 203 Front Street.

Until now, the restaurant's croissants and cinnamon buns were part of its weekend brunch. The bakery changes that: the cinnamon buns that were a weekend brunch item at the restaurant will now be sold every day, alongside the restaurant's signature croissants.

What the bakery sells

Everything is handmade on site, according to the restaurant. The counter covers four kinds of baking:

  • Breads: artisanal loaves meant for everyday buying, not just special occasions.
  • Pastries: the signature croissants and the cinnamon buns, to go with a coffee.
  • Cakes and tarts: whole cakes and tarts to take home for a birthday or a dinner.
  • Cookies, plus a ham and cheese baguette for a quick lunch.

The restaurant next door

Sadie's describes itself as a full-service, two-floor dining room in the historic Seaport that serves New American comfort food, for weekend brunch as well as a sit-down dinner. The menu runs to smashed burgers, beer-battered fish and chips, and hush puppies with maple butter. The bakery gives the same kitchen a counter for people who want something to carry out on the way to the office or the ferry.

The two sit together on Front Street, in the cobblestone blocks of the Seaport between the Financial District and the East River piers. That puts the bakery a few minutes from Pier 17, the South Street Seaport Museum and the ferry landings at Pier 11 and Wall Street.

Getting there

The closest subway hub is Fulton Street, served by the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J and Z trains, a walk of about ten minutes east toward the river. NYC Ferry boats stop at Wall Street/Pier 11, south of the Seaport along the East River.

Sadie's posts updates and early word of its events to its email newsletter, which is the place to check for the bakery's hours as opening day arrives. Reservations for the restaurant are taken on its website.
