The ice is going back down under the Brooklyn Bridge. Brooklyn Bridge Park has announced that Roebling Rink, its seasonal outdoor skating rink on Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in DUMBO, opens for the season on Saturday, November 14, and stays open every day through January 31, 2027.
Opening day is built to bring people in. The first two skating sessions on November 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., are free. Free tickets are already available on the rink's website, and the park says they are first come, first served while they last.
What else happens on opening day
The rink has scheduled a full day around the first sessions:
- Holiday movie screenings throughout the day.
- Educational and craft activities led by Brooklyn Bridge Park educators, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Brooklyn Museum's Museum on Wheels, the museum's traveling art program, on site from noon to 4 p.m.
- Milk, the drag performer and figure skating champion, performing and skating with the crowd during the 6:30 to 8 p.m. session.
- A festive set from the New York City Gay Men's Chorus from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
The setting
Emily Warren Roebling Plaza sits beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, with the Manhattan skyline across the East River. The rink is a seasonal pop-up, built on the plaza each fall: the park lists build-out from October 14 through November 13, so expect fencing and detours around the plaza until opening.
Tickets and rentals
Skating sessions after opening day are ticketed and booked by time slot on the rink's website, where the season calendar also shows holiday hours. Skate rentals are 8 dollars, helmets are 5 dollars, and skate buddies, the walker-style aids for beginners, are 5 dollars, all of which can be added when buying tickets. Lockers rent for 5 dollars, and free cubbies sit under the benches in the rink tent. Every skater needs a signed waiver before stepping on the ice. Discounts are available on purchases of ten tickets or more.
The rink offers skating lessons with Fireworks Skating Academy during select sessions on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission is included with a lesson, though skates are rented separately.
It is an outdoor rink on the waterfront, so dress warmly. Water is allowed; outside food and other drinks, alcohol and pets are not, and bags are not allowed on the ice.
