Ridgewood Savings Bank, the mutual savings bank that carries the neighborhood's name, is asking teenagers to make a 30-second video about money. The top entry through Ridgewood wins an Apple MacBook Air, and it moves on to a national round where first place is $10,000. Entries are due Dec. 1.
The contest is Lights, Camera, Save!, the American Bankers Association Foundation's national financial education video competition. Ridgewood is one of the banks that runs a local round and sends its winner forward.
Who can enter and what to make
It is open to teens ages 13 to 18. Each entry is an original 30-second video about financial responsibility. The bank lists the kinds of subjects it is looking for:
- Saving and budgeting
- Credit scores
- Paying for college
- Avoiding financial scams
- Protecting your identity
The bank pitches the contest to teens who already make videos for social media or for fun, and to those who have never made one.
The prizes
Ridgewood's own round pays out four places:
- First: an Apple MacBook Air
- Second: an iPhone 18
- Third: AirPods Pro
- Fourth: a $100 Amazon gift card
The school that sends in the most eligible entries gets a $500 grant.
Ridgewood's winning entry can advance to the national competition, where prizes are $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second and $2,500 for third. Winning videos are posted on YouTube as part of a national financial education campaign.
