PrimaryMD, a membership medical practice that started in San Francisco, will open its New York flagship on the second floor of 430 West Broadway in SoHo in November. The company announced the opening on Tuesday, October 20, and its SoHo page says people on the waitlist will get private previews of the space before the doors open, with the exact date to be sent to that list.
The clinic sits on West Broadway between Prince and Spring Streets. It is the company's second location in the city. Its existing New York office, at 503 West 35th Street near Hudson Yards, will stay open, and until SoHo is ready, New York members are seen there, at home for blood draws, or by video.
What the space looks like
The SoHo office covers about 3,300 square feet, according to the company: roughly 2,000 square feet indoors plus an outdoor patio of about 1,300 square feet that is open only to members. There is no waiting room. Members check in at reception and go straight to a private room, and the company says no more than two members will be in the space at the same time.
The layout puts physician offices, exam rooms, a consultation nook and a performance room with a treadmill and testing area in one continuous space, so a visit can move from a conversation to a physical exam to a fitness test without leaving the floor. PrimaryMD describes the design as Japanese-influenced and minimal, with warm wood, plaster and natural light. The release also lists a hospitality bar and a private shower.
How the practice works
PrimaryMD combines primary care with prevention, diagnostics, exercise science and longevity medicine. Each member is assigned a team of four: a lead physician, an exercise physiologist, a medical assistant and a care coordinator. In SoHo, each team is capped at 150 members, and the office is built for three teams, which works out to a ceiling of 450 members at this location.
Membership starts with a two-hour intake and a full baseline workup. After that, the company lists blood work four times a year (drawn at home or in the office), quarterly reviews with the physician, a monthly session with the exercise physiologist, an in-home sleep study and whole-genome sequencing. Testing done on site includes VO2 max, resting metabolic rate, body composition (including visceral fat), grip strength, force-plate testing and movement analysis. DEXA scans are arranged at a nearby facility. Members get same-day access to their team and unlimited visits during the year.
The practice also tracks markers over time in areas it names on its site: metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, lipids, cancer prevention, fitness and sleep.
Cost and what it does not cover
Membership is $1,500 a month, billed once a year at $18,000, and the company says that price is the same in every market it serves. It is for adults only. PrimaryMD states plainly that membership is not health insurance, so members still need coverage for hospital care, specialists, procedures and prescriptions, and imaging a physician recommends may carry separate costs. The company says it does not sell supplements and does not mark up tests.
Each membership also includes a year of access to Sollis Health, which handles urgent and after-hours care for PrimaryMD members. PrimaryMD's care network includes a center open 24 hours a day at 170 East 77th Street and a daytime center in Tribeca at 255 Greenwich Street, and the company lists telemedicine around the clock. The PrimaryMD physician stays in charge of long-term follow-up.
Who is behind it
PrimaryMD was founded in 2024 in San Francisco and has an established member base in the Bay Area. Daniel Yuabov is the chief executive. The chief medical officer, Dr. Sukhjit Takhar, is board-certified in internal medicine, emergency medicine and infectious disease and has trained or taught at UCLA, Harvard and UCSF, according to the company.
The SoHo team listed on the company's site includes Dr. Michael Billington, its chief science officer; Dr. Fred Watson, a preventive cardiologist; Dr. Sonal Sakariya, who practices internal medicine and women's health; and Heather Milton, the lead exercise physiologist.
Getting there and getting in
430 West Broadway is a short walk from the C and E trains at Spring Street, the R and W at Prince Street, and the 1 train at Houston Street. The company's New York contact hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and its New York number is (646) 917-7082.
The SoHo waitlist is open now on the company's site at primary-md.com/soho. The company describes three steps: a short form, a private preview of the space, then first access to the founding physician panels as spots open. Joining the waitlist carries no commitment, according to PrimaryMD, and the membership team can also arrange care at the Hudson Yards office for anyone who wants to start before November.
