Marcus Garvey Park, the hilltop park between 120th and 124th Streets in Harlem, has three free things on its schedule this week, and each one gets people moving: a ’70s-themed silent disco on Friday, a hula hoop aerobics class on Saturday and the weekly pacer-led Harlem Run on Monday nights.

Friday, Nov. 6: a ’70s silent disco

The Pelham Fritz Recreation Center, which sits inside the park at 18 Mount Morris Park West, opens its holiday-season Silent Disco Series on Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Multi-Use Room B. The theme is the 1970s. Guests are invited to come in vintage clothes from that decade, or in fun clothes from any era, and dance to music played through headphones rather than speakers. It is the fourth silent disco the center's staff has put on.

The party is free and open to the public. NYC Parks lists online registration through Thursday, Nov. 5, and RSVPs also go by email to Lasharn.Cooper@parks.nyc.gov. The center's phone number is 212-860-1373.

Saturday, Nov. 7: hula hoop aerobics

The next afternoon, from 1 to 2 p.m., instructor Lisa Brown teaches Hula Hoop Aerobics in the same room, a class that combines dance aerobics with hula hooping. It is part of Shape Up NYC, the city's free fitness class program, and costs nothing. Hoops are available to borrow. Participants are asked to bring a waist belt (a waist trainer) and a lock for their bag, since only a towel, water and a phone are allowed in the room. Registration is open on the NYC Parks site through the day of the class.

Mondays: Harlem Run

Harlem Run leads free running and walking groups through the neighborhood, and its Monday Night Run starts and ends at Marcus Garvey Park. This week's runs are Monday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 9, from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Each week takes a different route through Harlem. Pacers cover paces from 7 to 12 minutes per mile, plus run-walk and walking groups, and the run is open to all ages and abilities.

The group meets between the public restroom building and the baseball field, on the south side of the Pelham Fritz Recreation Center, near West 122nd Street and Mount Morris Park West. Registration is recommended but not required. A bag drop is usually available but not guaranteed, so travel light.

Getting there

The 2 and 3 trains stop at 125th Street and Lenox Avenue, a short walk from the park's northwest corner, and the 4, 5 and 6 trains stop at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, a few blocks east.
