For one night next week, every seat in the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center costs $10. Tuesday, Nov. 3, is opening night of the Paul Taylor Dance Company's 2026 New York season, and the company has priced the entire house at ten dollars for that 7 p.m. performance before the regular three-week run continues through Nov. 22.
What is on the program
Ten of Paul Taylor's own dances form the core of the season. Four of them have not been performed at the Koch Theater in more than ten years: Arabesque, set to Debussy; ...Byzantium, to music by Edgard Varèse; Spindrift, to Schoenberg; and 3 Epitaphs, danced to early New Orleans jazz in costumes by Robert Rauschenberg. The rest of the Taylor repertory includes Esplanade, Brandenburgs, Airs, Cloven Kingdom, Last Look, with a set and costumes by Alex Katz, and Piazzolla Caldera.
There are new works too. Resident choreographer Lauren Lovette's 30 Incoming, set to music by The Books, has its world premiere on Nov. 5. Resident choreographer Robert Battle's A Starling, set to music by John Mackey, has its world premiere at the company's gala on Nov. 4. Pam Tanowitz's Messengers, Maidens and the End of Something Else, danced to Schubert, gets its New York premiere on Nov. 8.
Two more pieces enter the company's repertory this season: Battle's No Longer Silent, to music by Erwin Schulhoff, and a revival of Alwin Nikolais's Tensile Involvement, for which Nikolais designed the music, set, costumes and lighting himself.
The Orchestra of St. Luke's plays live throughout, conducted by the company's music director, David LaMarche.
