Edgar Allan Poe's cottage on the Grand Concourse opens after hours on Saturday, Oct. 24, for Nevermore, a literary salon and night market devoted to Poe and to gothic writing more broadly. The Bronx County Historical Society is running the evening at the Poe Park Visitor Center, 2640 Grand Concourse, with exclusive tours of the cottage, a night market, author readings and a live performance by the singer Militia Vox. Tickets are booked through the society's ticket page, which lists them at no charge.
The schedule
- 4 to 6 p.m.: exclusive tours of Edgar Allan Poe Cottage.
- 5 p.m.: the night market opens at the Poe Park Visitor Center, next door to the cottage, with confections, themed cocktails, and vendors selling Poe books and merchandise.
- 6 p.m.: the program begins, with readings by editors and authors of More Than Love: The Enduring Fascination of Edgar Allan Poe, a 2024 collection, followed by a live set from Militia Vox.
The society's partners for the night include The Bronx Beer Hall and Nefarious Confections.
Why the cottage
The cottage in Poe Park was Poe's last permanent home. He lived there from 1846 to 1849 and wrote Annabel Lee, The Bells, Ulalume and Eureka there, according to the Bronx County Historical Society.
Also on Saturday: Poe in the parade
The cottage is marching on Saturday too. The Bronx County Historical Society and Poe Cottage are joining the Bronx Halloween Parade, now in its 41st year, as part of an all-goth contingent with Latin Horror and The RESISTANCE: A Bronx Goth Movement. Anyone who wants to march with them can RSVP at poecottage.org/parade.
If you miss Saturday
Poe Cottage is open for regular visits on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., with a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.
