Magnolia Bakery, which opened its first shop on the corner of Bleecker Street and West 11th Street in the West Village in 1996, is opening on Staten Island. The bakery lists Hylan Commons, the shopping center on Hylan Boulevard at New Dorp Lane in New Dorp, among its new store openings, with the store set to open this fall.
Where it is going
Hylan Commons sits at 2530 Hylan Boulevard, at the corner of New Dorp Lane, a neighborhood retail center of about 83,000 square feet. The S79 Select Bus Service runs along Hylan Boulevard, and the Staten Island Railway's New Dorp station is up New Dorp Lane.
Magnolia's site invites people to sign up for its list to be told the opening details as soon as they are set.
What Magnolia sells
The bakery is known for its classic American desserts: its banana pudding, cakes, cookies and the cupcakes that made it a destination. Its own history page dates the start of the cupcake craze to 2000, when the shop appeared on the television show Sex and the City and drew long lines on Bleecker Street.
From that single West Village shop, Magnolia opened a second New York store on the Upper West Side and a third in West Hollywood, then its first international franchise bakery in 2010. The New Dorp store is part of the bakery's current round of new openings.
What to watch for
Magnolia is listing several fall 2026 openings at once, including its first location in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The Staten Island page carries the same sign-up for opening details, which is the place to look for the exact date and opening hours.
