Just Salad, the New York salad chain that opened its first restaurant in Midtown Manhattan in 2006, now has a store in the Bronx. The company's first Bronx location opened on October 12 at 446 East Fordham Road, and it is holding a grand opening celebration from Tuesday, November 3, through Friday, November 6.

Until now the chain's New York City stores were in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Its founder and chief executive, Nick Kenner, said the company had received many requests from Bronx residents before choosing the Fordham Road site.

The grand opening

Tuesday, November 3, is a giveback day: for every in-store purchase, Just Salad will donate $1 to Bronx is Blooming, the Bronx nonprofit that organizes volunteers to care for parks and green spaces in the borough.

From Wednesday, November 4, through Friday, November 6, the store runs $5 meal days. Any of the chef-designed salads, wraps, warm bowls or market plates is $5 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5 to 8 p.m.

What is on the menu

The menu includes more than 15 chef-designed salads, wraps, warm bowls and market plates, plus soups and smoothies. Dressings are made in-house and produce is prepped daily. The newer build-your-own market plates let customers choose every part of a warm plate, from the base to the dressing. The menu also carries carbon labels and a Climatarian category for lower-impact choices.

The reusable bowl

Just Salad is a Certified B Corporation and is best known for its reusable bowl program, which it has offered since its founding in 2006 and which it describes as the largest restaurant reusable bowl program in the world. Customers who bring the bowl back get a free topping each time.

The JS Rewards program in the Just Salad app adds a free mystery item after each purchase, a stamp card that unlocks free menu items, and monthly freebies for members.
