June Baby, a cocktail bar built around Filipino-American flavors, opened at 197 Second Avenue in the East Village on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The bar timed its grand opening to the last days of October, which is Filipino American History Month.
June Baby describes itself as New York City's first Filipino-American cocktail bar. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight and closed on Mondays.
What it serves
In its opening announcement, the bar invited guests in for a cocktail, with or without alcohol, and some bites. The bar's account lists its hours and posts updates on the menu.
For the opening, the bar said it would donate one dollar from each of its signature June Baby cocktails to a family in its community.
Built by a team of collaborators
The announcement credited a long list of people who helped build the room, which the owners said had been a long time coming. The bar's uniforms, its brand, its architecture and interior design, and its sign were each the work of named designers and studios, and several artists contributed work to the space. The front of the bar carries a lit sign spelling out its name above the door.
The owners thanked their partners, their investors and the community that followed the project before the doors opened. The bar's Instagram account had been posting updates through the summer.
