Guest in Residence, the cashmere label Gigi Hadid founded in 2022, now has a store on the Upper East Side at 1061 Madison Avenue. It is the brand's second freestanding shop in Manhattan, after its store at 21 Bond Street in NoHo, and its first uptown.

The Madison Avenue address sits in the stretch between East 80th and East 81st Streets, a block from Central Park and a short walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The brand

Hadid started Guest in Residence in New York as a direct-to-consumer label and serves as its creative director. The company says the idea came from secondhand cashmere sweaters her parents passed down when she moved to New York as a teenager, and the name refers to clothing that moves from owner to owner over its life.

The line has grown from sweaters into cardigans, pants, loungewear, denim and accessories, for women and men. Most of the cashmere is sourced in Inner Mongolia, and the brand is a member of the Sustainable Fiber Alliance, the nonprofit that sets herding and animal welfare standards for cashmere.

The take-back program

Guest in Residence stores run a take-back program. Customers can bring in gently worn Guest in Residence pieces to be recycled and get 10 percent off their next purchase. The returned items go to Re.Verso, a facility in Italy that turns recovered fibers into regenerated wool and cashmere yarn.

The New York stores

With the Upper East Side shop, the brand now has two New York locations and two in California, in Beverly Hills and Malibu. The Bond Street store in NoHo keeps longer hours, until 7 p.m., while the uptown store closes at 6.
