Family Weekend brings a home football game and a free history walk to Fordham University's Rose Hill campus, and a few blocks west, the cottage where Edgar Allan Poe lived in the 1840s is open on weekend afternoons. Here is the week in Fordham.

Football: Fordham vs. Lafayette, Saturday

The Rams host Lafayette College in a Patriot League game on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field on the Rose Hill campus. Tickets are sold through Fordham Athletics. Fans who cannot make it can watch on ESPN+ or listen on WFUV 90.7 FM.

Family Weekend, Oct. 23 to 25

Most Family Weekend events are ticketed for students' families, but two are open to all: a Family Weekend Mass on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 4:30 p.m. and a Sunday Mass on Oct. 25 at 11 a.m., both at the University Church. The university's own schedule sends families out to Arthur Avenue for dinner on Saturday night.

Hidden in Plain Sight: a Rose Hill walk

On Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., Robert J. Reilly leads a walking tour of the Jesuit history of the Rose Hill campus. It is free, and registration is required through the university.

Poe Cottage

The Edgar Allan Poe Cottage at 2640 Grand Concourse is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Poe rented the small farmhouse in 1846 for $100 a year, and his wife, Virginia, died there in 1847. The Bronx County Historical Society has operated it as a museum since 1975. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors, and no one is turned away. Library card holders can also get free entry through Culture Pass.

Bronx Library Center

The Bronx Library Center at 310 East Kingsbridge Road, the largest public library in the borough, is open Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. This week it offers drop-in career help on Monday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., a Tunes, Play and Relax session Monday at 2 p.m., and a resume workshop for teens on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. The 78,000-square-foot building opened in January 2006 and was NYPL's first green library, earning LEED Silver certification in 2007.

Getting around

The B, D and 4 trains all stop at Kingsbridge Road and Fordham Road, and Metro-North's Harlem Line stops at Fordham, across the street from the Rose Hill campus.
