Coney Island USA is bringing back Creatures of the Night, its drag, burlesque and sideshow shadow cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, for two nights over Halloween weekend: Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, from 8 to 10 p.m. at its building at 1208 Surf Avenue.

A shadow cast performs the film live in front of the screen while the movie plays, and the audience is part of the show. Coney Island USA, the nonprofit arts organization behind the Coney Island Museum and the sideshow, announced the run with a simple note that the production is back.

The cast

Coney Island USA describes the company as an entirely queer people of color cast of drag artists, sideshow performers and burlesque performers. The lineup it has posted:

ASL interpreters will be at both performances.

Costumes, callouts and prop bags

The house rules follow the long tradition of midnight Rocky Horror screenings. Costumes are encouraged, and so are the audience callouts that regulars shout back at the screen. Prop bags will be on sale at the show. Anyone bringing their own props can, with one exception: no food, so leave the toast and rice at home.

The show is 18 and over to enter and 21 and over to drink.

How tickets work

Tickets are $30 and are sold through Coney Island USA's own site with no online service fees. They are will call only, which means you pick them up at the box office at 1208 Surf Avenue on the night, and they are non-refundable. Friday and Saturday are listed as separate events, so pick the right night when you buy.

Make a weekend of it on Surf Avenue

The shows fall on the last weekend of Luna Park's annual Halloween Harvest, which runs through Sunday, November 1. According to Luna Park, the Harvest includes a pumpkin patch, a tractor race, the Phantom Grounds walkthrough, trick-or-treating, a balloon artist and airbrush artist, and live entertainment on the Halloween Harvest Stage, all included with a ride wristband. That makes Saturday afternoon at the park and Saturday night at the shadow cast a two-part Halloween in one neighborhood.
