Riverdale is now inside the Citi Bike map. The Mayor's Office announced on Oct. 15 that the latest expansion of the bike share system is finished, and Riverdale is one of seven neighborhoods it added, alongside Norwood in the Bronx; Brownsville, East New York, Kensington and Bay Ridge in Brooklyn; and Forest Hills in Queens.
The expansion by the numbers
The rollout added more than 230 stations and about 3,700 docks across the seven neighborhoods. It began in Bay Ridge last September and finished in East New York. It grew the service area by about 10 square miles, to 86.5 square miles in all, and the city says 62 percent of New Yorkers now live inside it.
Every new station uses Lyft's Pillar dock, the company's newest modular design. The city's Department of Transportation works with communities to choose station sites, and Lyft installs, runs and maintains them. The release did not list how many of the new stations are in Riverdale; the Citi Bike app shows each one.
Lyft also plans to add hundreds of docks inside the existing zone this fall, in Midtown, Chelsea, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Gowanus.
