Mott Street will close to cars on Halloween afternoon for Chinatown Trick-or-Streets, a free block party run by the Chinatown BID and Chinatown Partnership. The event is Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Mott Street between Canal Street and Bayard Street, and the organizers say this year's edition will be bigger than the last.

What is planned

The Partnership lists these highlights for the afternoon, with the full program still to be announced:

  • Trick-or-treating and giveaways along the block
  • An acrobatic parade
  • A photo booth, face painting and balloon twisting
  • A live DJ and entertainment
  • Family games
  • Tables with community resources

Admission is free and the event is for all ages. Costumes are encouraged.

Who is behind it

The Chinatown BID and Chinatown Partnership organize the party with a long list of neighborhood co-hosts: Chung Pak Local Development Corporation, the Kiwanis Club of Community Care NYC, Immigrant Social Services, Cathay Bank, Ai Mart, the Law Offices of Edward J. Cuccia and the Traffic Squad Benevolent Association. The street closure runs through the city Department of Transportation's Open Streets program.

The Partnership is marking its own 20th anniversary in 2026. Besides events like this one, it runs a visitor information kiosk at 101 Baxter Street, open daily from noon to 5 p.m.

A car-free block for trick-or-treating

Closing the block between Canal and Bayard for four hours gives Chinatown families a stretch of Mott Street to trick-or-treat on without traffic, a block from Columbus Park. The party ends at 7 p.m.
