Callen-Lorde, the community health center that serves the Bronx's LGBTQ+ community and beyond, has reopened its Bronx clinic in a new, renovated space at 555 Bergen Avenue, on the fourth floor, in the Melrose section of the South Bronx near The Hub. The organization says the new site is more than five times the size of its previous Bronx clinic.

The Bronx site first opened in 2016. The new space includes an on-site pharmacy, so patients can fill prescriptions in the same building where they are seen.

What the clinic offers

  • Primary care
  • Sexual health services
  • Behavioral health care
  • HIV treatment
  • PrEP for HIV prevention, including long-acting injectable options
  • Quick Care walk-in visits

Hours

The clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on weekends. The pharmacy keeps slightly shorter hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For care after hours, Callen-Lorde lists 212-271-7200.

What it costs

Callen-Lorde sees patients regardless of their ability to pay. Uninsured and underinsured patients pay on a sliding fee scale based on income, with visit copays from $0 to $100. Labs and prescriptions are not included in the copay, and lab work adds roughly $50 to $150. The clinic accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Family Health Plus, ADAP and ADAP Plus, and many commercial insurance plans.

How to become a patient

New patients can book a first appointment online through Callen-Lorde's MyChart portal, through the New Patients page on its website, or by calling the Bronx clinic at 718-215-1800.

Getting there

The clinic is steps from the 3 Av–149 St station on the 2 and 5 lines, which is accessible. The address is 555 Bergen Avenue, 4th floor, Bronx, NY 10455.
