Three Bushwick shows reach their final days this week and next: an extended solo play at The Bushwick Starr and two gallery exhibitions on Willoughby Avenue, each with a closing event on Sunday, Nov. 1. Here is what each one is, when it closes and how to see it.
i'm not even half, at The Bushwick Starr, through Oct. 30
The Bushwick Starr extended Layla Khoshnoudi's solo show i'm not even half, which now runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Khoshnoudi wrote and performs it, in her debut as a playwright, and Machel Ross directs; the theater produces it in association with ¡OYE! Group. The story follows a woman who is hit by a car on a Brooklyn street while glued to news from Iran, and turns that premise into a darkly comic story of finding herself.
Performances start at 7 p.m. and run about 90 minutes with no intermission. It is recommended for ages 15 and up, with general admission seating. The Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 performances have closed captioning and Spanish translation. The Bushwick Starr is at 419 Eldert Street; tickets are sold through the theater's website. The nearest subway is the L at Halsey Street.
ANAHITA, at Transmitter, through Nov. 1
Transmitter, the gallery at 1329 Willoughby Avenue, Suite 2A, is showing ANAHITA, a solo exhibition and participatory installation by the Iranian American artist Amy Rose Khoshbin, curated by Lila Nazemian. It takes its name from Anahita, the ancient Persian goddess connected to water, healing and wisdom, and turns the gallery into a sanctuary where visitors take part in rituals of grief and play.
Two public events remain. On Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m., Khoshbin leads a collage workshop called Anahita's Oracle. On Sunday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m., the show closes with oracle readings. The gallery is open weekends from 1 to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
Absorption, at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, through Nov. 1
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York, an artist-run gallery, closes Absorption on Sunday, Nov. 1, with a closing event from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition, organized by Mónica Palma, brings together work by Nivia Hernandez, Daniel Anthony Vasquez and Kristen Jensen that uses sea sponges and unfired clay to explore immigrant assimilation.
Plan a Sunday
On Nov. 1, the two gallery closings fall two hours apart, at 3 p.m. at Transmitter and 5 p.m. at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, so both fit in one afternoon. Transmitter is near the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues station on the L and M. Check each gallery's website before going.
