The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has opened a second location this fall, BKCM Prospect Park West, on Grand Army Plaza, four blocks from its longtime home at 58 Seventh Avenue in Park Slope. The roughly 12,000-square-foot space houses the conservatory's new Music Therapy Institute, and BKCM says the expansion will let it more than double the number of New Yorkers it reaches.

Who BKCM serves now

The conservatory already works with more than 10,000 New Yorkers at more than 90 sites across all five boroughs. It runs five programs: its Community Music School, a Suzuki program, Music Partners in schools, Music Therapy, and a Community Music Center in Cypress Hills and East New York. The Seventh Avenue campus has 17 studios, each with a Steinway piano.

Open this week

  • Jazz Program Open House, Thursday, Oct. 22, 6 to 8 p.m. Prospective students can meet the faculty and see the new Jazz Piano Lab.
  • Kanahi Yamashita, Friday, Oct. 23, a classical guitar concert presented by the Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society at BKCM.

The conservatory also opened both buildings to the public on Sunday, Oct. 18, for Open House New York Weekend tours.

Where

BKCM Prospect Park West is at One Prospect Park West on Grand Army Plaza; the conservatory's event listings give its entrance as 963 President Street. The Grand Army Plaza station on the 2 and 3 trains is steps away, and the 7 Avenue station on the B and Q serves the Seventh Avenue campus.
