16 Handles, the New York self-serve frozen yogurt chain, opens its Park Slope shop at 148 Seventh Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 25, at noon. The company's own location page gives the opening date and time, and lists the shop's phone number as 718-954-9133.
How 16 Handles works
The name describes the format. Customers serve themselves from a wall of 16 soft-serve machines, add whatever they want from a toppings bar of more than 50 toppings and sauces, and pay by weight for what ends up in the cup. The flavors rotate, and the company says any given day's lineup can change, so it suggests calling or stopping in to see what is pouring.
The menu goes beyond the original frozen yogurt. According to 16 Handles, the Park Slope shop carries:
- Frozen yogurt, the original product, which the company says carries live and active cultures and is made with non-GMO dairy from local farms.
- Soft-serve ice cream, made with real cream, including flavors with mix-ins.
- Vegan soft serve and other dairy-free choices, plus sorbet, Italian ice and no-sugar-added flavors.
- Frozen yogurt cakes and take-home pints, and DŌ edible cookie dough.
The location page also lists the shop as kosher certified, with indoor and outdoor seating, and says it offers pickup, delivery and catering. 16 Handles runs a rewards app as well.
Who it is for
16 Handles pitches the Park Slope store as a sit-down space for families and friends, from toddlers getting their first cone to grandparents. The shop is on Seventh Avenue, a few blocks from Prospect Park. The company says it has been sourcing its dairy from local farms since it started in 2008.
\1The hours posted on the location page ahead of opening were still being finalized, so check the page or call before making a special trip on a weekday.
